Gavin Meany MD
Mental health (or illness) is an integral part of our existence; it can affect our decision making and the sentience of our very being. A certain mood can make a similar experience pleasurable or painful; our understanding and experiences of the world around us can literally change our life and the world we live in.
My approach towards my patients involves patience and empathy; listening and asking questions are my medical instruments. I believe in the importance of medical management of the whole patient. I promote the concepts of autonomy and shared decision making with my patients. I like to keep an open mind and encourage my patients to become experts in their own illness, often discovering the best investigators in themselves.
